Though Whirlpool is a giant company in 2023, its starting point was not that massive. On 11 November 1911, Louis Upton and Emory Upton established this company as a wringer-washer manufacturer.
And now, Whirlpool is a multi-billion dollar company. It has total equity of estimated 5 billion dollars and 20 billion dollars worth of assets.

When did Whirlpool buy Amana?
At the end of 2006, Whirlpool acquired Maytag. As Amana was a subsidiary of Maytag, it was evident that it would become a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation.
In 2002, Maytag bought one of the three segments, the Amana appliance division, from Goodman Global. However, Maytag’s independence operation did not last long, as it went under Whirlpool in the end.
As Maytag became a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, Amana Appliances also became a part of this company. However, only one-third of the whole Amana Inc. Rest of company is under Goodman Global.
Who owned Amana previously?
Previously, Amana was under Maytag. However, Maytag only owned the appliances segment and had controlled this brand for around four years.
Whirlpool is the current owner of Amana Appliances. However, it is not the first to own this company. Several companies and corporations operated Amana before Whirlpool got its hand on it.
In 2006, with the acquisition of Maytag, Whirlpool took over the Amana appliance. But before Amana Appliances came under Maytag, it was a subsidiary brand of Goodman Global. Currently, Goodman owns Amana HAC and furnace divisions only.
Before Amana had come under Goodman Global, it was under several companies. In 1934, it was first founded in Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA. However, 31 years after its establishment, it became a subsidiary of an aerospace multinational company Raytheon.
In 1997, Goodman Global acquired a hundred percent of Amana company, which includes home appliances, air conditioning, and furnace. However, after only five years, the company sold its appliance unit to Maytag.
That is how Amana’s ownership switched over the years of its establishment.
Does Kenmore own Amana?
The answer is no. Kenmore and Amana have no relation. However, both of them are appliance manufacturing companies.
Amana is a subsidiary company of Whirlpool Corporation. Goodman Global also owns a part of Amana. On the other hand, Kenmore is a subsidiary brand of Transformco.
Though Amana and Kenmore are not related, there is a common point between them. Kenmore manufactures its products from well-known companies, including Samsung, Whirlpool, Panasonic, LG, Winia Electronics, Electrolux, and Cleva North America.
As Whirlpool is one of the manufacturers of Kenmore, there is a slight connection between Amana and Kenmore. Because Whirlpool is not only the owner but also the manufacturer of Amana appliances.
However, it does not mean Kenmore is the owner of Amana. As Kenmore and Amana’s appliances are made from the same point, many think in this way. But they are not parent and subsidiary companies.
Does Goodman own Amana?
Yes, Goodman Global still owns a part of Amana. As of 2023, Goodman manufactures Amana air conditioning systems and heating equipment, such as furnaces.
In 1997, Goodman purchased a hundred percent of Amana from an aerospace company named Raytheon. But in 2002, Goodman sold out the appliances unit to Maytag and kept the HVAC unit for itself.
Therefore, technically, it is a yes. Goodman still manufactures Amana’s products.
